Once again, the public is invited to the annual Hatch Street Holiday Sale and Open Studios. Visit with favorite artists showing in New Bedford studios for decades while meeting artists new to South Coast art scene. Wander the studio lofts of 88 Hatch Street and see where fine textiles, jewelry, ceramics, woodworking, paintings and drawings are made. Shop a wide variety of handmade gifts including ornaments, fine soaps and body products, jellies, honey, and children’s toys. Rub elbows with enthusiasts’ who come each year to add to their collections, browse, begin a collection or do some holiday shopping.
The Hatch Street Holiday Sale benefits the regional art scene as new artists use the experience to grow their creative businesses. “We’ve become a kind of incubator for emerging artists,” says Nicole St. Pierre, coordinator of the sale.
New artists and designers get their first taste of dealing with the public while gaining valuable feedback helpful in determining which products are commercially viable. Laurie Bullard is among several artists new to the sale this year. A long-term resident of the area, she will be showing her heartfelt photographs of South Coast scenes and card sets that make wonderful gifts. Among the veteran artists is Sarah Morse, a jeweler from South Dartmouth, who also creates beautiful silver holiday ornaments.
The sale takes place throughout Thanksgiving weekend and is a fun place to bring holiday guests. Hours are Friday, November 25, 1:00 to 6:00, Saturday, November 26, 10:00 to 5:00, Sunday, November 27, 11:00 to 5:00.
Hatch Street Studios participates in the St. Anthony’s Church food pantry collection drive. Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to this special cause.
