I use my art to think, to contemplate, to question and explore. I don't always know what it is about a subject that draws me to it or makes me want to make an image; it's just there, somehow, in my head. And I put it down on paper, or canvas, or whatever.
I "see" an image in my mind and then I create it. What it means, I don't always know, but I do know it has to be “made.”
If I think about the "Coming and…" and "Going" images, they came from thinking about how life is fleeting, and how people are here and then not. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but I think they are mostly about how people come and go in our lives.
If I'm doing a botanical piece, I sort of think the same way – all of life is here and then gone.
I don't want to be depressing about it – it's a fact of life.
And there's a beauty in it.
