Biography

Nicole St-Pierre is a studio artist, who creates hats and scarves, with her hand-dyed shibori fabrics. She also hand-knits and felts wool hats, embellishing them with needlefelting details.

Nicole graduated in 1998, from UMass Dartmouth, with an MFA Degree in Fiber Arts. She has taught many workshops, at NISDA on Nantucket, Horizons, Snow Farm, Peters Valley's School of Crafts in New Jersey, the Community College of Rhode Island, UMass Dartmouth, Cape Cod Community College, and in France with Horizons To Go.

Her work is represented in several galleries: The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, Rogers Gallery in Mattapoisett, Skera in Northampton, and Woods Hole Handworks.

"Nature and architecture are my primary sources of inspiration. In my studio, I create patterned fabrics using the traditional Japanese technique of shibori. I stitch, tie, fold and clamp the fabric before hand dyeing, to produce colorful textures, geometrical and natural patterns. The patterns, colors, and textures I like to create are reminiscent of flowers, leaves,
trees, the moon, sunsets, etc. They are visual poems"
